Leavenworth Times Website Redesign | updated layouts

During critique on Monday I realized that the black on the page was making this way too heavy to read. There was far too much contrast. But, it did help me define my grid. I used the same grid to create these sequential layouts. I took away everything until I couldn't take away anymore and then added what was necessary. I put ads on the right hand side of the page to be realistic, as the paper has 6 dominant ads at any given time on the screen within their current website. I took the boxes away almost entirely and may even take away a few more. I really liked the boxed grid that I had before under the Times logo, but it didn't hold the text in the most efficient way. I reduced the concept but still kept the idea. I have been working on this for quite a while so I'm going to give it a rest and come back to it tomorrow. I think there is still more to be deduced but I feel like I'm headed in the right direction. The paper still has the same form, just much airier. Also, something I really dislike about newspaper websites is the bold red and blue. I understand the political reasoning but I'd like to make this paper politically ambiguous because I don't think politics should have a hand in the deliverable content, it should be raw, unadulterated news from primary sources.

some of these colors did not translate quite right, will try to fix and re-upload
